THE AMACC REGION
The AMACC Region is the largest ACC region (by population) in
South Australia, and is considered a key regional area for the
State's ongoing economic and social development.
The region covers 17 Local Government Areas, and one Regional
Development Board, combining urban, inner city and rural areas.
DEMOGRAPHICS
The AMACC region contains:
- 61.8% of the SA population
- 40% of the State's indigenous population
- 75% of the State's NESB population.

REGIONAL LABOUR MARKET
- The AMACC Region follows the National and State trend of
having an ageing population with 47% aged 40+ and
individual LGA's up to 55% (Walkerville).
- The Region's labour force participation rate is 58%,
compared with the national figure of 63%.
- The region's unemployment rate is 5.4%,higher than both
the State(5.0%) and national(5.1%) averages. Several
LGA's within the region recorded rates well above the
AMACC regional average, at 17.3% Elizabeth has the
highest unemployment rate in South Australia. (DEWR LEO, SALM Mar 2006)
- Youth unemployment is high at 15.3% (16.9% male, 13.7%
female).
- The unemployment rate of 24% (27% male, 20% female)
amongst the AMACC region's indigenous population is of
great concern.
INDUSTRY
- An estimated 80 - 85% of South Australia's economic
activity occurs within the AMACC region.
- Major industry sectors include:
- Manufacturing (14.8%)
- Retail (14.6%)
- Health & Community Services (12.5%)
- Property & Business (10.9%)
- Employment is dependent on automotive, automotive
components, and whitegoods manufacturing and processing.
